Intern insights: growing with UiPath, part three

UiPath intern Diana

Welcome to our new blog series, Intern insights: growing with UiPath .

In this series, we’ll be sharing stories from our talented interns, highlighting their experiences, growth, and the unique journeys they’ve taken with UiPath. For our third edition, we’re excited to introduce Diana Ionescu, a Product Design Intern, who has been making strides both personally and professionally during her time with us.

Hi! I’m Diana and I’ve been a product designer for almost three years now, mainly working as a freelancer. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fashion Design and a Master of Social Media and Online Marketing, with a thesis focusing on crisis communication. I’m passionate about psychology and am quite interested in topics such as sustainability, climate change, and human rights.

Here’s a little fun fact: animals bring me joy, but cats hold a unique place in my heart (which is why I have three of them). Other than that, I'm a highly empathetic, enthusiastic, and inquisitive person. My hobbies include, but are not limited to: gaming, cooking, swimming, and downhill biking.

Why did you choose UiPath?

"My decision to apply for an internship at UiPath stems from the positive interactions I've had with former employees, as well as the overall reputation of the company. Learning about the company's culture and how its employees uphold its values also influenced this decision."

What have you been exposed to during your internship?

"During my internship, I primarily focused on enhancing the existing UiPath products, Studio and Studio Web, by either developing or improving their features. Additionally, I’ve explored ways of supporting my team’s daily work by creating and updating components, as well as documenting how our products might benefit from switching to a different design system. I also enjoyed participating in activities outside the product design department, such as the Executive Speaker series, the UiPath podcast, and an educational program tailored for small and medium-sized companies."

What’s been your biggest learning or takeaway from this experience?

"I think the most intriguing insights I’ve gathered so far are mainly centered around how different a solo designer acts in their role vs. a team of designers and how the development of a consumer-oriented product differs from an enterprise-dedicated app. The internship experience also taught me that having a supportive team can have a great impact on the success of a product."

Any tips for maintaining a work-life balance during an internship?

"Don’t put a lot of pressure on yourself, even if this becomes tempting, as it’s usually rooted in the need to prove oneself. Nine times out of ten, stress is counterproductive.

Give your best and then get a good rest. Take it step by step and don’t sacrifice your time off, as that is your chance to recharge.

Keep in mind that work and personal life intertwine, and they are rarely going to be very clearly delimited from one another. It’s up to you to observe what works best for you—there’s no such thing as right or wrong."

Why should others consider an internship, and what would be your advice to them?

"If you're new to the industry, internships can provide you with a general understanding of how your field operates and how you may add value through your work. On top of that, such programs can offer you the chance to get a peek into your peers’ day-to-day work, thus helping you make an informed choice when choosing a career path.

If you have previous work experience in a role similar to the one offered through the internship program, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain insights on how other professionals perceive and act in their roles. Additionally, an internship can help you develop a rounded career."
