Intern insights: growing with UiPath

UiPath Interns

Welcome to our new blog series, Intern insights: growing with UiPath .

In this series, we’ll be sharing stories from our talented interns, highlighting their experiences, growth, and the unique journeys they’ve taken with UiPath. For our first edition, we’re excited to introduce Crystal Guo, a Human Resource Business Partner Intern, who has been making strides both personally and professionally during her time with us.

Hey everyone! I’m a senior at NYU studying business with a focus on finance and management, and a minor in psychology. I was born in Brooklyn, spent five years in China, and was raised in Princeton, New Jersey.

Here’s a little fun fact: despite being from New Jersey, I don’t have my driver’s license yet, and my friends never let me hear the end of it! In my free time, you’ll usually find me hunting down the best restaurants in New York. My dad’s a chef who trained in Japan, and we have a few family restaurants back in New Jersey, so being a foodie runs in my blood.

Why did you choose UiPath?

"I chose UiPath because of the exceptional experience I had during the application process. Huge thanks to my recruiter, Stacey Goldman! A few weeks after I applied, Stacey reached out to me, but it wasn’t a typical interview—she took the time to understand my goals and dreams. Originally, I had applied for a different internship, but Stacey suggested the HRBP role instead."

"Throughout the whole process, she was incredibly supportive, always checking in and sending me useful information to help me prepare. I’d never encountered such a personal and invested approach, especially for an internship. It was clear that Stacey genuinely cared about my growth and development, and that made UiPath stand out to me."

What have you been exposed to during your internship?

"I’ve had the chance to dive into a variety of projects, from revamping our HRBP SharePoint to organizing the People Leadership team offsite in New York. But the real highlight for me was attending the offsite itself. It was definitely my favorite part of the internship. Being in the room while the People Leadership team discussed their strategies for the future was both thrilling and eye-opening. I got to see how senior leaders make pivotal decisions and balance so many different factors. The whole experience made me realize just how intricate and thoughtful people strategy can be, balancing various shareholder values to craft a cohesive plan. Overall, it was an amazing experience that really made me appreciate the complexities and nuances of strategic decision-making."

What’s been your biggest learning or takeaway from this experience?

"The biggest lesson I’ve learned from this experience is just how different real-life operations are from what we discuss in class. Seeing the People Team in action has shown me that the complexities and nuances of the work are far more intricate than they appear in textbooks. The team’s deep experience has given them an incredible ability to pinpoint what really matters and identify potential risks to our solutions. It’s one thing to learn about these concepts theoretically, but witnessing them in practice has been eye-opening and has given me a much deeper appreciation for the field."

Any tips for maintaining a work-life balance during an internship?

"Maintaining a work-life balance during an internship can definitely be challenging, but I’ve found that sticking to a routine really helps. I’m a firm believer in taking time for myself and knowing what I need for self-care. For me, that means hitting the gym or a workout class early in the morning. My day typically starts around 8:30 AM, but I’m up by 6:30 to get my workout in before work. This early start ensures that I have my evenings free for meal prepping and catching up with friends. My biggest tip is to identify what’s most important to you and make it a non-negotiable part of your routine. No matter how busy things get, holding on to those personal priorities will help you stay balanced and energized."

Why should others consider an internship, and what would be your advice to them?

"Having done internships with non-profits, startups, and big companies like UiPath, I’ve found that the real value often comes from the people you meet. One piece of advice from my manager, Agi, really stuck with me: she suggested I spend my first week meeting everyone on the People Team. This turned out to be incredibly valuable. Chatting with experienced professionals and asking them for career advice was eye-opening. It gave me a chance to learn from their experiences and get insights that are hard to come by in a classroom setting."

"So, if you’re considering an internship, my advice is to dive into those networking opportunities. Build relationships, seek out mentors, and ask questions. The connections you make and the advice you gather can have a huge impact on your career and personal growth."
