Humans of UiPath: Inside the life of a Sales Engineer

Meet Piotr Zajac, one of our Senior Sales Engineer in Poland! Since his childhood, he has been convinced that robots have the potential to enhance our work and improve our world. In this post, we will delve into his personal and career path towards achieving a sci-fi childhood dream with UiPath shaping the future of agentic automation!

Can you tell us more about yourself?

"I always knew I wanted to work with robots. This idea came to me through books I found in the public library where I lived as a kid. I had no other way to learn about it, except through my own thoughts on how to make hard physical work easier.

Later, of course, these images came flooding through television screen of post-Soviet 90s Poland; but in my mind, robots are still more Asimov’s support for humankind then Cameron’s terminators.

Over the years I’ve accumulated a set of skills ranging from AI and machine learning to cloud solutions and enterprise architecture, but my heart was always with robots, supporting labor, and as a human I believe that 'The main business of humanity is to do a good job of being human beings' (Kurt Vonnegut, Player Piano) and we should embrace robots as partners in building more prosperous world."

What led you to choose a career in Sales Engineering?

"I've always been a fan of mixing tech with solving real-world problems. Sales Engineering is a perfect fit for me! It lets me use my technical knowledge on how to address clients' needs and help them achieve their goals. Plus, I get to geek out over new technologies all the time."

What attracted you to UiPath specifically?

"UiPath caught my eye with its forward-thinking approach to automation and AI. The company’s mission to push digital transformation and its energetic, inclusive work environment sealed the deal for me. It's like stepping into one of Asimov’s futuristic worlds, today."

How has your role evolved since you joined UiPath?

"My role has grown greatly since I joined. I started with a strong focus on intelligent document processing. Now, I’m more involved in strategic subjects like agentic automation and I try to lead AI/ML initiatives to enhance business growth in the Southeastern Europe region."

What was the most rewarding part of our journey at UiPath?

"The most rewarding part has been seeing the real impact of our projects on clients. It's amazing to see how our solutions can change how they work. And working with an awesome team in such a forward-thinking company is just the cherry on top. Another thing you will find on my LinkedIn profile is that I consider what I do to be 'artificial intelligence for the real world'."

What advice would you give to someone considering a role in Sales Engineering at UiPath?

"Stay curious and keep learning. Sales Engineering is all about having the technical chops and being able to communicate effectively with clients. So, brush up on your tech skills and be ready to engage actively with customers. In my Gallup evaluation of strengths, Learner is in first position followed up by Analytical and Achiever. If this resonates with you, you are going to love it, trust me!"

What is your favorite benefit or perk at UiPath?

"UiPath is fantastic when it comes to professional development. They offer great training programs and opportunities to upskill. Plus, the collaborative and inclusive culture makes it a great place to work. It's like being part of a big, innovative team."

How do you maintain a work-life balance in a busy environment?

"Balancing work and life can be tricky. I try to manage it by setting boundaries and prioritizing my time—still, I have to admit I am a workaholic.

There were times in my life that working too much would put me in a hospital, and that is why these days I make sure to allocate time for personal activities like physical exercising (I do CrossFit three times a week) and family time, spending time with my son, who is growing up so quickly, taking my wife out on dates. Taking these breaks and disconnecting from work helps me stay refreshed and focused."

What excites you about the future of our role or team at UiPath?

"The future is super exciting with all the advancements in AI and automation. There's so much potential to innovate and make a global impact. I'm really pumped about exploring new technologies and working on transformative projects. It feels like living in one of the sci-fi worlds I used to read about."
